January 2016 Vegan Cuts Beauty Box Review
Y’all it’s Vegan Cuts Beauty Box reveal day, and this month’s box was chock-full of all-natural, new-to-me goodies! If this is the first time you’re hearing about this rad subscription service, it’s a monthly beauty box ($19.95/month with free shipping) that delivers 4-7 vegan and cruelty-free items (ranging from unique cosmetics to luxurious skincare) right to your doorstep. It’s the easiest way to discover cruelty-free brands without committing to full-size products or prices. You can sign up for this beauty box here. You can also peep my past Vegan Cuts Beauty Box reviews here.
January’s Vegan Cuts Beauty Box included 6 vegan items:
Earthlab Cosmetics Vegan Lash Mascara, $25 – First off, this single item covers the cost of the entire VC beauty box and then some – SCORE! I LOVE receiving vegan mascaras in beauty boxes because there are so many fantastic ones, and discovering new ones makes me giddy. Most all-natural mascaras are light and daytimey, requiring a couple extra coats. This mascara is aloe-based and is formulated with certified organic ingredients like coconut oil and vanilla bean extract – yum (it really does smell good, too)! What I like best about mascaras like this one is that they come off easily with water. Will be rocking this mascara in an upcoming #motd Instagram selfie, so stay tuned (give VBR an Insta follow if ya don’t already – thank you in advance). Heads up: since this product is made with all-natural ingredients, some product separation is totally normal.
Aubrey Organics Revitalizing Therapy Moisturizer,* $13 – I’ve been a long-time Aubrey fan, but I’ve surprisingly never tried this moisturizer before. I used it this evening for the first time and it smells like marzipan (which I lurrrve)… does anyone else’s sniffer pick that up? Anyhoo, the formula is designed to fight wrinkles, which for me, a 30-somethin’, is high on my list of priorities. It contains nutrient-rich, cold-pressed, organic Rosa Mosqueta oil and a protective blend of carnosine and milk thistle, which works to help reduce the appearance and depth of lines and wrinkles. Like I said, it smells yummy, and it feels delicious on my skin, too.
The Jojoba Company Gentle Cleansing Balm & Youth Potion,* $6 – I’ve been vibing on jojoba oil big time lately – I use to to remove my makeup, moisturize my skin, soften my cuticles – it’s pretty much taken the place of my previously beloved coconut oil. So… anything with jojoba oil in it, makes my ears perk up a bit. This cleanser is made with skin nourishing butters and oils (including jojoba, of course) with natural Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) from melon and papaya which gently dissolve gunk and grime. It’s a creamy, lotion-like, über moisturizing cleanser that’s perfect for winter skin – is y’all’s skin as dry and crusty as mine this time of year? Also, it has a really lovely sweet and floral scent that’s derived 100% from essential oils – love that!
Their Youth Potion (sample) is jojoba oil that is rich in vitamins A, B, C, D, E & F and CoQ10, all potent wrinkle fighters. It also has a delicate scent of linden blossom which I would wear as a perfume in a heartbeat. I can see myself splurging on full-size versions of both of these products.
Wabi-Sabi Botanicals Sagga Heavenly Balm 3-1 Facial Cleanser, Mask & Scrub, $8 – So um, everything in this month’s VCBB smells like heaven… my nose holes are high on happy scents. 🙂 I haven’t tried this gentle cleanser/scrub/mask yet but it definitely appeals to me. It’s formulated to soothe and clear acne-prone skin, so imma hang onto this until Aunt Flo pays me a visit… I get hormonal acne like nobody’s business (anybody else?). The cleanser is made with oats, kaolinite clay, activated bamboo charcoal (which absorbs up to 300x its weight in toxins and impurities), and pink roses. I’m super excited to give this a whirl. Wabi-Sabi, props for the glass packaging. That always makes my heart smile.
Lashea Butter Whips Essential Body Scrub, $1.50 – Oh man, this smells amazing, too like, orange and lemon flavored Mamba candy (which is totes vegan, btw). This made-to-order scrub is specially blended from a cocktail that includes vegan sugar, shea butter, soy seeds, avocado oil, coconut oil, marula oil, Vitamin E and essential oils. I’m looking forward to treating myself to a deluxe hand scrub with this ish later tonight.
*faves from this month’s box
Overall impression: I feel like the past few VCBBs have been leaning toward more all-natural and organic vegan beauty products. I’m hoping this is a long-term trend, and I’m lovin’ all the über clean & non-toxic items. There’s a lot of bang for the buck in this month’s beauty box (everything together is valued over $53!), and it was a lovely mix of skin care, body care, and makeup! Box faves: The Jojoba Company cleanser and beauty oil and Aubrey Organics moisturizer. I know the Sagga cleanser will be a fave, too, but I don’t want to jump the gun, as I’ve yet to try it.
